Google Calls It Quits On Developing Its Own First-Party Stadia Titles

google stadiaMuch like any ecosystem, having a lot of services and apps available will make it a more attractive platform compared to one that is lacking. This might explain why Google had initially decided to start developing its own first-party games for its Google Stadia game streaming service.

However, it seems that Google has ultimately decided that the investment required to make their own games might be simply too costly for them, especially when there are a ton of other games already available. So much so that Google has decided to pull the plug on the development of its own first-party Stadia games and focus more on the service instead.

According to Google, “Creating best-in-class games from the ground up takes many years and significant investment, and the cost is going up exponentially. Given our focus on building on the proven technology of Stadia as well as deepening our business partnerships, we’ve decided that we will not be investing further in bringing exclusive content from our internal development team SG&E, beyond any near-term planned games.”

These changes won’t have any impact on users, unless of course they were anticipating some of these titles. However, beyond that, users will be able to continue using Stadia as per usual and stream their favorite games and those available in the Stadia library.
